Speaker – Michelle Rumsa

Michelle Rumsa, RA, NCARB, is the Director of Architecture at Edgewater Resources, based in St. Joseph, Michigan. With over 30 years of experience in waterfront design, she specializes in creating marina amenities and waterfront facilities, guiding projects from concept to completion. Her portfolio includes a variety of design solutions for marina, hospitality, mixed-use, and non-profit clients.

Michelle’s expertise in zoning, coastal regulations, accessibility, building, and energy codes helps her craft designs that are not only visually appealing but also functional and compliant with site-specific requirements. She has worked on a range of waterfront amenity project scales—from small waterside outdoor seasonal bars, to full-service, multi-floor, luxury hospitality buildings that integrate hotel, dining, lounges, fitness, retail, and marina operational support spaces. She has led marina projects throughout the Great Lakes, bringing an experienced understanding of freshwater conditions, seasonal use, and the unique regulatory and environmental considerations of these waterfront communities. Known for her thoughtful, structured approach, Michelle helps owners translate operational goals into long-lasting, welcoming marina environments that enhance guest experiences and long-term value.

Michelle is a 2023 recipient of the AIA Grand Rapids “Say It Loud” Award and actively serves her community as a dedicated volunteer for the Berrien Artists Guild / Box Factory for the Arts and as an architect for Harbor Habitat for Humanity Affordable Homes. Outside the studio, she is a boater, musician, dog rescuer, and proud mother and wife—bringing both professional rigor and personal passion to every waterfront project she takes on.
