As a marina professional, and a Certified Marina Operator through the Association of Marina Industries, I have had the opportunity to learn from my educational experiences, as well as managing different marinas. One of these being South Bay Marina in Green Bay Wisconsin. My current Marina is Kewaunee City Marina on Lake Michigan. These experiences have allowed me to understand the different needs and wants of the boating public. It is one thing to attract a customer, but it is another thing to make them want to stay. I have found that a hospitality approach to marina management increases customer retention. Cleanliness, a pleasant and friendly staff, convenience and consistency all have value to the customer. Providing these fundamentals cost nothing extra, but if they are ingrained within a marina culture, can facilitate measurable customer retention. I have presented this topic at the IMBC and IBEX conferences in New Orleans and Tampa Bay, respectively. Presenting on this level is important to me, as it gets me in front of other industry professionals, and gives me the opportunity to grow as an individual, as well as a professional.
